Portland Thorns FC took to the pitch at the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center as the club prepares to move into a first-of-its-kind dual women’s sports facility. The performance center will be the future home of both the Portland Fire and the Thorns.

What happened?

The Thorns were out at practice Wednesday on the brand-new fields made specially for them.

Why it matters for Portland Thorns FC

The first-of-its-kind dual women’s sports performance center is still an active construction zone with an opening date set for late August. That hasn’t stopped the Thorns from moving into their new digs nestled in the trees of Hillsboro.

What comes next?

The outdoor training area includes not one, but two state of the art pitches of grass and turf made to accommodate different playing surfaces and support player safety. With $150 million invested into a space dedicated to the two teams, Portland continues to make history with its commitment to women’s sports. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for the official opening of the Kaiser Permanente Performance Center on August 22, marking a historic milestone for women’s sports nationwide.
